Mosiah — Chapter 16
Abinadi continues to talk to King Noah and his priests.
After Abinadi had said these words, he said: The time will come when everyone will see the Lord’s salvation–when everyone will agree and say to God that his judgments are fair.
Then the wicked will be thrown out, and they will have reason to howl and cry and shout, and grind their teeth, because they would not listen to the Lord. He will not save them,
Because they are evil like the devil, and the devil has power over them. (Yes, the devil, that old snake who tricked our first parents and caused the Fall, which is how all people became fallen, knowing evil and good, and choosing to let the devil have power over them.)
This is why all people were lost. They would have been lost forever if God had not saved them.
But those who keep on being evil, and keep sinning and fighting against God, will stay fallen and lost, and the devil will have all power over them. They are just as if there were no salvation for them, because they are enemies to God. The devil is an enemy to God, too.
If Christ had not been born (I am speaking as if Christ had already been born), there could not have been any salvation.again.
And if Christ had not risen from the dead, nor broken the chains of death so the grave would not win and death would have no sting, there could not have been any resurrection.
But there is a resurrection, so the grave does not win, and Christ takes away the sting of death.
He is the light and the life of the world — yes, a light which does not end, and which can never be made dark. Yes, a life that does not end, so there will be no death anymore.
Mortal bodies will become immortal, and imperfect bodies will become perfect. People will come and stand before God, and he will judge them by the good or bad things they have done.
If they have done good things, they will have life and happiness forever. But if they have done evil things, they will be damned forever, and given to the devil, who has made them his slaves (and that is damnation) —
Because they have done whatever evil they wanted to do. They never prayed to the Lord while he could have mercy on them. The Lord wanted to have mercy on them, but they did not want it. They were warned about their sins, but they would not stop sinning. They were commanded to repent, but they would not repent.
Now, shouldn’t you shake with fear and repent of your sins, and remember that only Christ can save you?
So if you teach the Law of Moses, you should also teach that it is only a shadow of the things to come.
Teach the people that salvation comes through Christ the Lord, the Eternal Father. Amen.
