Mosiah — Chapter 15

Abinadi continues to talk to King Noah and his priests

Then Abinadi said to them: I want you to understand that God himself will come down among people, and he will save his people.

He will be called the Son of God because he has a body of flesh. He will obey the Father in all things. He is the Father and the Son.

He is the Father because he was made by God’s power. He is the Son because of his body. This is why he is the Father and the Son.

They are one God, the Eternal Father of heaven and earth.

Just as the body obeys the Spirit, or the Son obeys the Father, as one God, he will be tempted, but he will not do evil. He will let himself be made fun of, and whipped, and thrown out, and not counted with his people.

After all this, and after doing great miracles among people, he will be led like a sheep to get its wool cut, and he will not say anything.

Yes, this is how he will be led and killed on a cross. His body will obey death, and what the Son wants will be taken over by what the Father wants.

This is how God breaks the chains of death and gives the Son power to ask for mercy for people.

He will go up to heaven and be full of mercy. He will be full of kindness towards people. He will stand between them and justice. He will break the chains of death and take on himself people’s sins and evil doings. He will save them and make peace with justice.

Now, who can tell me who his children are? After his soul has been a sacrifice for sin, he will see his children. So what do you say? Who will be his children?

Whoever has heard what the holy prophets of God have said about the Lord’s coming — all who have listened to their words and believed that the Lord would save his people, and looked forward to that day when their sins will be forgiven — I tell you that they are his children, and they will live in God’s kingdom.

These are the ones whose sins he has paid for. These are the ones for whom he died, to save them from their sins. And now, aren’t they his children?

Yes, and what about all the prophets since the world began — all who have prophesied and not fallen and sinned? I tell you that they are his children.

They are the ones who preached peace, who brought good news, who taught about salvation, and said to Zion: “Your God rules!”

How beautiful on the mountains were their feet!

And how beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those still preaching peace!

And again, how beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who will preach peace from this time until forever!

But this is not all: How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the One who brings good news, who is the cause of peace — even the Lord who has saved his people and given them salvation!

If it were not for the salvation which he made for his people, which was planned before the beginning of the world, all people would have died forever.

But the chains of death will be broken. The Son rules and has power over the dead, so he will bring the dead back to life.

There will be a first resurrection — a resurrection of those who have lived and those who will live up to the time of Christ’s resurrection. (He will be called Christ.)

The prophets and all who believed in their words, and kept God’s commandments, will be resurrected first.

They will be raised to live with God, who saved them. They have eternal life through Christ, who has broken the chains of death.

Those who died before Christ came, who did not know about Christ and his salvation, will have part in the first resurrection, and will have eternal life, because the Lord will save them.

Little children will also have eternal life.

But woe to you! You should shake before God, because the Lord will not save those who fight against him and die in their sins. Yes, all who have died in their sins since the world began, and fought against God — who knew God’s commandments but would not keep them — they will not have any part in the first resurrection.

So shouldn’t you shake with fear? Salvation will not come to people like that. The Lord has not saved people like that, because he must do what he has said, and he will not stop justice.

The time will come when all nations, families and people will be told about the Lord’s salvation.

Yes, Lord, your guards will shout and sing together, because they will see and understand together when the Lord brings Zion again.

Shout with joy! Sing together, you desert places of Jerusalem, because the Lord has made his people happy again, and he has saved Jerusalem.

The Lord has shown his holy arm to all the nations of the earth. All the earth will see our God’s salvation.
