The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Moroni — Chapter 6

Now I will tell you about baptism. Elders, priests, and teachers were baptized, but only if they had repented and were ready to be baptized.
They baptized only those with broken hearts and repentant spirits who showed the church that they had repented of their sins.
Only people who took on the name of Christ and wanted to serve him all their lives were baptized.
After they were baptized, they were given the gift of the Holy Ghost and were counted as members of Christ’s church. Their names were written down so they would be remembered and visited and taught the word of God, so they would always keep his commandments and be faithful to Christ, who had saved them.
The members of the church met together often to fast and pray and to talk about things that would help their souls stay close to God.
They met together to take the sacrament in memory of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice.
They made sure that no members were wicked. Whoever sinned had to confess to the elders of the church. If they sinned and did not repent, and did not confess, and if three or more people said that they had sinned, their names were taken off the records of the church, and they were no longer counted as Christ’s people.
But every time they repented and asked to be forgiven, they were forgiven.
The power of the Holy Ghost led them in their meetings. The Holy Ghost helped them know what to teach, or say, or sing, or pray. They did whatever the Holy Ghost told them to do in their meetings.
