Mormon — Chapter 9
Now I want to talk to you who do not believe in Christ.
Will you believe when the Lord comes again–on that day when the earth will be melted by great heat–on that day when you stand in front of the Son of God? Then will you say there is no God?
Then will you say there is no Christ, even after you have seen him? Do you think you will want to live with him, knowing that you did not believe in him, and knowing that you always broke his commandments?
I tell you that you would much rather live with the damned souls in hell than live with God and feel so much guilt and shame.
When you see God’s glory, and how holy Jesus Christ is, your guilt and shame will make you feel as if you were being burned with fire.
O then, you who do not believe, pray strongly to God the Father in Christ’s name so you will be clean at the end of the world, and so your sins will be forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice.
And you who say there are no more revelations, or prophecies, or healing, or [spiritual gifts of God]:
I tell you that whoever says these things don’t happen anymore does not understand Christ’s gospel, and does not understand the scriptures.
Do the scriptures not say that God is the same today as he was yesterday, and he will be the same forever — that he does not change?
If you believe in a god that changes, then you believe in a god who cannot do miracles.
But the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is a God of miracles, and he is the same God who made heaven and earth and everything in them.
He made Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve caused the Fall, and Jesus Christ, the Father and the Son, came to save us from the Fall.
All people will get new bodies and live again because of the salvation of Jesus Christ.
Then the Holy One will judge all people. Whoever is wicked will still be wicked, and whoever is righteous will still be righteous. Whoever is happy will still be happy, and whoever is unhappy will still be unhappy.
I ask all of you who believe in a god who cannot do miracles: Has everything I told you about happened already? I tell you, no, it has not — and God has not stopped being a God of miracles.
Who can understand all of God’s great and wonderful works?
Who can say it is not a miracle that he made the heavens and the earth just by saying a word, and that he made people in the same way from the dust of the earth? He has done many miracles.
Who will say Jesus Christ and his apostles didn’t do many great miracles?
If miracles were done then, then why not now? Or has God, who does not change, somehow become a God who does not do miracles anymore? I tell you that he does not change, and if he did change, he would not be God anymore. But he is still God, and he is still a God of miracles.
He does not do miracles if people don’t keep his commandments, or don’t have faith in him, or don’t believe in him or know him.
Whoever believes in Christ, without doubting, can ask God the Father in Christ’s name for anything, and they will get what they ask for. This is a promise for everyone everywhere on earth.
Christ told his disciples who will stay on earth until he comes again: “Go all over the world and teach my gospel to everyone.
“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be damned.
“These are the signs of true believers: they use my name to throw out the devil, and to speak different languages, and to hold snakes. If they drink poison, it will not hurt them, and they can heal the sick.
“I will let whoever believes in my name, without doubting, know the truth of all of my words.”
Who can fight against the Lord’s works? Who can fight against what he has said? Who can fight against the Lord’s power? Who will fight against Christ’s people? All you who fight against the Lord’s works will be surprised, and you will be destroyed.
Don’t fight against the Lord, but listen to what he says. Ask God the Father in Christ’s name for the things you need. Don’t doubt, but believe, and come back to God with all your heart, and work to save yourself.
Be wise during this life. Be pure and clean. Don’t ask for things which are not right, but ask him to help you fight against evil and serve the true and living God.
Don’t be baptized if you have not repented, and don’t take the sacrament if you are not worthy. Make sure you do everything in righteousness and in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. If you do this and endure to the end, you will be saved.
I am talking to you as if I were talking from the dead, because I know you will read my words.
Don’t condemn me because of my mistakes. Don’t condemn my father because of his mistakes, and don’t condemn the others who have written these records because of their mistakes. Instead, thank God that he has shown you our mistakes, so you can learn to be wiser than we have been.
We have written the things we know on these plates using a language we call “reformed Egyptian,” which is the language our ancestors taught us. It has changed over the years.
If our plates had been bigger, we would have written in Hebrew, but even the Hebrew we speak is different from the way our ancestors spoke it. But if we could have written in Hebrew, there would not be any mistakes in our records.
But the Lord knows what we have written. He also knows that no one else speaks our language, so he has made a way for someone else to understand and translate what we have written.n when this book comes to you.
We have written these things so the sins of our unbelieving brothers and sisters will not be counted against us.
We have asked God to help our brothers and sisters know about Christ again, just as our ancestors and all the saints in this land have prayed for him to do.
May the Lord Jesus Christ answer the prayers they prayed in faith. May God the Father remember his promise to the House of Israel, and may he bless them forever through faith on the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
