Helaman — Chapter 10
The people kept arguing so much that they went away, leaving Nephi standing by himself.
Nephi began to go back to his house, thinking about the things the Lord had shown him.
As he was thinking about those things (and he was very sad about the Nephites’ wickedness — their killing and robbing, and so on), a voice came to him and said:
“You are blessed, Nephi, for what you have done, because I have seen how patiently you have taught the gospel to this people. You have not been afraid of them, and you have not thought about your own life, but you have wanted to do my will and keep my commandments.
“Since you have worked so very hard, I will bless you forever. I will bless you that the things you say and do will be powerful, and your faith and your works will be strong. Yes, everything that you say will happen, because you will not ask for anything I would not want.
“You are Nephi, and I am God. I tell you in front of my angels that you will have power over this people. You will curse the earth with famine, and disease, and destruction if the people are wicked.
“I give you power so that whatever you seal on earth will be sealed in heaven, and whatever you unseal on earth will be unsealed in heaven.
“If you tell this temple to break in two, it will happen.
“If you tell the mountain to become a smooth valley, it will happen.
“And if you say that God will curse this people, it will happen.
“Now I command you to tell the people that this is what the Lord God Almighty says: ‘If you do not repent, you will be destroyed.’”
Now after the Lord said this to Nephi, he did not go back to his house, but went back to the many people scattered all over the land, telling them what the Lord had said about destroying them if they did not repent.
But even though he had done a great miracle by telling them about the death of the chief judge, they would not listen to the Lord’s words.
So Nephi told them what the Lord had said: “If you do not repent, you will be destroyed.”
But even after Nephi told them this, they still hardened their hearts and would not listen to him. They spoke against him and tried to throw him in prison.
But God’s power was with him, and they could not throw him in prison, because the Spirit took him and led him away from among them.
He went in the Spirit from group to group, telling them what God had said, until he had told or had sent it to all the people..
But they would not listen to his words. There began to be arguments, and people fought each other and began to kill each other with the sword.
This was how the seventy-first year ended.
