Ether — Chapter 4
So the Lord told Jared’s brother to go down the mountain and write down the things he had seen and heard, and not show them to anyone until after he [Jesus] came and was killed on the cross. This was why King Mosiah did not show these things to anyone, so no one would see them until after Christ came.
After Christ showed himself to his people, he commanded that these things should be made known.
But even after that, the Nephites no longer believed and were destroyed. Now there are only Lamanites left–and they do not believe in Christ’s gospel, so I am commanded to hide these things in the ground again.
I have written the same things on these plates that Jared’s brother saw. There is nothing greater to see than what he saw.
The Lord commanded me to write them, so I wrote them. He has commanded me to hide them in the ground, along with the two stones (Urim and Thummim).
The Lord said to me: “The Gentiles will not get these things until they repent of their sins and become clean before me.”
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth and everything in them, said: “When they have as much faith in me as Jared’s brother, so that they become holy, then I will show them the things Jared’s brother saw, including all my revelations.”
Jesus Christ said: “Whoever fights against what the Lord says will be cursed, and whoever denies these things will be cursed, because I will not show them any greater things.
“The heavens open and close when I say so. The earth shakes when I say so, and the people of the world will die as if by fire when I say so.
“Whoever does not believe my words will not believe my disciples’ words. If you think I am not saying these things now, you will know at the end of the world that I said them.
“But my spirit will visit whoever believes what I have said, and they will know for themselves by my spirit that these things are good, because they help people be good.
“Whatever helps people do good comes from me, because good comes only from me. I lead people to do all good things. Whoever does not believe my words will not believe in me, and whoever does not believe in me will not believe in the Father who sent me. I am the Father, and the light, and life, and truth of the world.
“Come to me, O you Gentiles, and I will show you the great things that are hidden because of people’s unbelief.
“Come to me, O House of Israel, and you will see what great things the Father has planned for you since the world was made. You did not know these things before because you would not believe.
“When you destroy your unbelief, which keeps you wicked and stubborn in your hearts and minds, then you will see and know all the great and amazing things that have been hidden since the world was made. Yes, when you pray to the Father in my name, with a broken heart and repentant spirit, then you will know that the Father has remembered the promised he made to your ancestors, O House of Israel.
“Then people will understand the revelations my servant John wrote down. Remember, when these things are understood, you will know they are about to happen.
“When you get this record, you will know that the Father’s work has begun all over the earth.
“So repent, all you on earth, and come to me, and believe in my gospel, and be baptized in my name. Whoever believes and is baptized in my name will be saved. But whoever does not believe will be damned, and there will be signs to show who the true believers are.
“Whoever is faithful to my name will be blessed at the end of the world, because they will live in the kingdom prepared for them before the world was made. I, Jesus Christ, have said this. Amen.”
