Ether — Chapter 13

Now I, Moroni, will finish my record about the destruction of the Jaredites.

They would not listen to anything Ether said. He truly told them about everything from when people first began to be — that after the waters of the Flood went away, this land became the Lord’s chosen land, and that the Lord wants everyone who lives here to keep his commandments.

This land is where the New Jerusalem will come down from heaven, and where the temple of God will be.

Ether saw what happened during Christ’s life, and he talked about the New Jerusalem being here in this land.

He also talked about the House of Israel, and the city of Jerusalem where Lehi came from — that after it was destroyed, it would be built again and be a holy city of the Lord. It would not be the New Jerusalem, because it was the old city of Jerusalem from before. This holy city of the Lord would be built for the House of Israel.

The New Jerusalem would be built on this land, and it would be built for the rest of Joseph’s descendants, which was spoken of before.

Just as Joseph brought his father down to Egypt, even so he died there. But the Lord had mercy and brought some of Joseph’s descendants out of Jerusalem so they would not die, just as he had mercy on Joseph’s father so he would not die.

The House of Joseph will be on this land, and they will own this land, and they will build up a holy city to the Lord just like the old Jerusalem. They will not be defeated until the end of the earth.

There will be a new heaven and a new earth, which will be like the old heaven and earth, except that all things will become new.

Then the New Jerusalem will come, and those who live there will be very blessed, because their sins will be taken away by Christ’s blood. They will be counted with the House of Joseph, which is part of the House of Israel.

Then the old Jerusalem will come, too. Those who live there will be very blessed, because their sins will be taken away by Christ’s blood. They are the people who were scattered and then gathered in from all over the world, from the lands in the north, and their gathering is part of making the promise true that God made with their father Abraham.

When these things happen, they will make true the scripture which says that those who were first will be last, and those who were last will be first.

I wanted to write more, but I have been told not to. Ether’s prophecies were great and wonderful, but his people would not listen to him and threw him out. He hid in a small cave during the day, and during the night he saw the things which would happen to his people.

He wrote the rest of this history while he lived in the small cave, and at night he saw the destruction that would come to his people.

During the same year that the people threw him out, a great war began among the people, because there were many strong men who wanted to destroy Coriantumr by using those secret and evil plans.

But Coriantumr, who had studied war and the ways of the world, fought those who wanted to destroy him.

He did not repent, nor did his sons or daughters, nor did Cohor’s sons and daughters. In short, none of the sons and daughters of the Jaredites would repent of their sins in all the land.

So during the first year Ether lived in the small cave, many people were killed by the secret combinations who were fighting against Coriantumr to take away his kingdom.

Coriantumr’s sons fought and bled a lot.

During the second year, the Lord told Ether to prophesy to Coriantumr that if he and his family and servants would repent, the Lord would save his kingdom and the people.

If they would not repent, everyone would be destroyed except for Coriantumr. Coriantumr would only live long enough to see the prophecies come true about other people coming and living in the land, and those people would bury him. All the (Jaredite) people would be destroyed except for Coriantumr.

But Coriantumr would not repent, nor would his family and servants, so the wars did not stop. They tried to kill Ether, but he ran away from them and hid inside the small cave again.

Then during the third year, a man named Shared came and fought Coriantumr, and defeated him, and took him prisoner.

But in the fourth year, Coriantumr’s sons defeated Shared, and got the kingdom back for their father.

Then there was war all over the land. Every man with his group fought for what they wanted.

There were robbers and all kinds of wickedness all over the land.

Coriantumr was very angry with Shared, so he took his armies and fought against him. They were both very angry, and met in the valley of Gilgal, and the battle got worse and worse.

Shared fought Coriantumr for three days. Then Coriantumr defeated him and chased him until he got to the plains of Heshlon.

Then Shared fought Coriantumr on the plains, and defeated him, and beat him back to the valley of Gilgal.

Coriantumr fought Shared again in the valley of Gilgal and killed him.

But Shared had wounded Coriantumr in the thigh, so he could not fight for two years. During those two years all the people all over the land were killing each other, and no one could stop them.
