The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

The Book of Alma — Chapter 63

During the first part of the thirty-sixth year of the judges, Shiblon was given the holy things Alma had given to Helaman.

Shiblon was an honest man and kept God’s commandments, and so did his brother.

Then Moroni died, and the thirty-sixth year ended.

4 During the thirty-seventh year, a large group of people — five thousand, four hundred men and their wives and children — left Zarahemla to go to the north lands.

A very curious man named Hagoth built a very big ship near the border of Bountiful, near Desolation, and put it into the west sea by the narrow piece of land leading to the north lands.

There were many Nephite men who went on the ship and sailed to the north with supplies, and with many women and children. That was how the thirty-seventh year ended.

Hagoth built other ships during the thirty-eighth year. The first ship came back, and more people went on it. They took many supplies and sailed to the north again.

But we never heard of them again, so we think they drowned in the sea. One other ship sailed, too, and we don’t know where it went.

So during that year many people went to the north lands. And that is how the thirty-eighth year ended.

During the thirty-ninth year of the judges, Shiblon died. Corianton had sailed to the north in a ship to bring supplies to the people there,

So before he died, Shiblon gave the holy things to Helaman’s son, named Helaman (after his father).

All the holy records Helaman had were written down and sent to all the people in all the land, except for the parts of the record Alma had said not to send.

These things were to be kept holy and handed down from one generation to another, so Shiblon gave them to Helaman before he died.

Also during this year some people rebelled and went to live with the Lamanites, who became very angry with the Nephites again.

So during this year the Lamanites came with a very big army to fight Moronihah’s army. But the Lamanites were beaten badly and went back to their own lands.

This was how the thirty-ninth year ended.

This is the end of the history that Alma, and Alma’s son Helaman, and Alma’s son Shiblon wrote.
