Alma — Chapter 6
When Alma finished talking to the people of the church in Zarahemla, he called priests and elders to the priesthood by laying his hands on them as God commanded, to lead and watch over the church.
Whoever did not belong to the church, but repented of their sins and was baptized, became part of the church.
But whoever was part of the church and did not humbly repent of their wickedness — I mean the proud people — their names were taken off the church records, and they were not counted with the righteous people.
This is how they began to do things in the church in the city of Zarahemla.
I want you to know that everyone was able to come and hear God’s word. No one was kept away.
But God’s children were commanded to meet together often, and to fast and pray together for the good of those who did not know God.
After Alma made these rules, he left the church in Zarahemla and went east over the river Sidon into the valley of Gideon, to the city of Gideon, which was named after the man whom Nehor killed with the sword.
Alma began to teach God’s word to the church in the valley of Gideon. He taught what was revealed to his ancestors by the spirit of prophecy, and by his witness of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who would come and save his people from their sins, and by the priesthood he held. This is what was written. Amen.
