The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Alma — Chapter 25

Then the wicked Lamanites were even more angry about killing their brothers and sisters, so they promised to get even with the Nephites. They did not try to kill more Anti-Nephi-Lehies at that time.

They took their armies to the borders of the land of Zarahemla, and destroyed the people in the land of Ammonihah.

After that, they had many fights with the Nephites, and they were beaten back and killed.

Among the Lamanites killed were almost all of the children of Amulon and his brothers, who had been Noah’s priests. The Nephites killed them.

As for the rest of them, who ran away into the east wilderness, and got power over the Lamanites, and made many Lamanites die by fire for their beliefs —

(Because after the Lamanites lost so many people and had so many troubles, they began to remember what Aaron and his brothers had told them in their land. They began to stop believing in their ancestors’ teachings, and began to believe in the Lord, and that he gave great power to the Nephites. So many of them were converted in the wilderness) —

It was the rulers who were left of Amulon’s descendants killed everyone who believed in these things.

But killing them made many of their brothers and sisters angry, and there began to be fights in the wilderness. The Lamanites began to hunt and kill the descendants of Amulon and his brothers, so they ran away [farther] into the east wilderness.

The Lamanites are still hunting for them to this day. So what Abinadi said about the descendants of the priests who burned him to death came true.

He said to them: “What you do to me will happen to you.”

Abinadi was the first to be burned to death for believing in God. He said that many would be burned to death just as he was.

He told Noah’s priests that their descendants would burn many people to death, but that they would be scattered and killed, just as sheep without a shepherd are scattered and killed by wild animals. What he said came true, because they were scattered and hunted and killed by the Lamanites.

When the Lamanites saw that they could not defeat the Nephites, they went back to their own land. Many came to live in the lands of Ishmael and Nephi and joined the people of God — the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

They buried their weapons, too, just like their brothers and sisters, and began to be a righteous people. They walked in the Lord’s ways and kept his commandments and laws.

Yes, they kept the Law of Moses. They needed to keep the Law of Moses, because it was not finished yet. But they looked forward to Christ’s coming and knew that the Law of Moses taught about his coming. They believed they had to do what the Law said until the time he would be shown to them.

They did not think that the Law of Moses could save them, but the Law of Moses helped them have strong faith in Christ. This was how they kept their hope through faith, so they could be saved, believing in the spirit of prophecy, which told about things to come.

Ammon, Aaron, Omner, Himni, and their brothers were very happy about the success they had among the Lamanites. They knew the Lord had answered their prayers and kept every one of his promises to them.
