Alma — Chapter 21
Chapters 21–25: Aaron and his brothers preach to the Lamanites.
When Ammon and his brothers went their different ways at the borders of the Lamanites’ lands, Aaron went towards the land the Lamanites called Jerusalem, after the city their ancestors had come from. It was over near the borders of Mormon.
The Lamanites and Amalekites and Amulonites had built a great city they called Jerusalem.
The Lamanites by themselves were wicked, but the Amalekites and the Amulonites were even more wicked. They helped the Lamanites become more wicked and do more and more evil things.
When Aaron came to Jerusalem, he taught the Amalekites first. He began to preach to them in their churches. The Amalekites had built churches like Nehor’s church, and most of the Amalekites and Amulonites believed what Nehor taught.
After Aaron went into one of their churches, an Amalekite began to argue with him as he was preaching, saying: “What are you telling us? Have you seen an angel? Why don’t angels come visit us? Aren’t our people as good as your people?
“You are telling us that if we do not repent, we will be destroyed. How do you know what is in our hearts and what we want to do? How do you know we need to repent? How do you know we are not righteous people? You can see that we have built churches, and that we come together to worship God. We believe God will save everybody.”
Aaron said to him: “Do you believe the Son of God will come to save people from their sins?”
The man said to him: “We do not believe you know anything about that. We do not believe in these foolish stories. We do not believe you know what is going to happen, and we do not believe that your ancestors nor our ancestors knew what would happen in the future.”
Then Aaron began to tell them what the scriptures said about Christ’s coming, and about the dead living again — that no person could be saved unless Christ suffered and died for their sins.
When he told them these things, they were angry with him, and made fun of him, and would not listen.
When Aaron saw that they would not listen to him anymore, he left their church and went to a small city called Ani-Anti, where he found Muloki, and Ammah and his brothers, trying hard to teach people the truth.
But when they saw that the people would not listen, they left Ani-Anti and went to the land of Middoni. They taught many people the truth, but only a few believed what they taught.
Then Aaron and some of his brothers were taken and thrown into prison, and the rest of them ran away from Middoni into other parts of the land.
Those who were thrown into prison suffered many things. Then Lamoni and Ammon helped free them, and they were given food and clothing.
They began teaching the truth again when they got out of prison, even though they had suffered.
They taught wherever God’s Spirit told them to, teaching people in every Amalekite church, or in every place they could get in where Lamanites met together.
The Lord began to bless them, and they helped many people understand the truth. Yes, many learned about their sins and no longer believed the wrong things their ancestors had taught them.
Then Ammon and Lamoni left Middoni and went back to the land of Ishmael, which was Lamoni’s land.
King Lamoni would not let Ammon serve him nor be his servant.
He had churches built in the land of Ishmael, and he made his people come together in the churches.
Lamoni was happy because his people believed, and he taught them many things. He taught them that he was their ruler, and that they were free from his father, the king, because his father had said Lamoni could rule over the people in and around the land of Ishmael.
He told them that they were free to worship the Lord their God as they wanted anywhere in his land.
Ammon taught King Lamoni’s people all about being righteous. He taught them as hard as he could every day. They listened to him and worked very hard to keep all of God’s commandments.
