Alma — Chapter 15
Then Alma and Amulek were commanded to leave the city, so they left and went to the land of Sidom. There they found all the men who had left Ammonihah, who had been thrown out and stoned because they believed what Alma said.
Alma and Amulek told them what had happened to their wives and children, and also how they had been saved.
Zeezrom lay sick with a burning fever in Sidom because his mind was so troubled by his wickedness. He thought that Alma and Amulek were dead, and that they had been killed because of his wickedness. This terrible sin, and all his many other sins, gave his mind so much pain and guilt that he got very sick. He could not get well, and had a very high fever.
But when he heard that Alma and Amulek were in the land of Sidom, his heart began to get better. He sent word to them right away asking them to come to him.
They went right away to the house where he was, as he had asked, and found him very sick in bed with a high fever. He was very sick and sad about his wickedness. When he saw them, he reached out his hand and asked them to heal him.
Alma took his hand and asked him: “Do you believe that Christ has the power to save you?”
And Zeezrom said: “Yes, I believe all the words you have taught.”
Then Alma said: “If you believe in Christ’s saving power, you can be healed.”
And Zeezrom said: “Yes, I believe what you say.”
Then Alma prayed to the Lord, saying: “O Lord our God, have mercy on this man, and heal him because of his faith in Christ.”
When Alma said these words, Zeezrom jumped to his feet and began to walk. All the people were amazed, and everyone in the land of Sidom heard about it.
Alma baptized Zeezrom, who began from that time on to teach the people.
And Alma began a church in the land of Sidom, and made priests and teachers in that land to baptize whoever wanted to be baptized.
Many wanted to be baptized. They came from all around Sidom and were baptized.
But the people in the land of Ammonihah were still hard-hearted and would not repent of their sins. They said that all of Alma and Amulek’s power came from the devil. They believed what Nehor had taught, so they did not believe in repenting of their sins.
Amulek had given up all his gold and silver and riches in the land of Ammonihah for the gospel, because his friends and father and family had rejected him.
So after Alma built up the church at Sidom, and saw that the people had stopped being proud, and had begun to be humble before God, and were coming together to worship God at the altars in their holy places, watching and praying all the time to be saved from Satan, and death, and destruction —
Now as I said, when Alma saw all these things, he took Amulek with him over to the land of Zarahemla, into his own house, and comforted him and made him strong in the Lord.
This was how the tenth year of the judges ended.
