Alma — Chapter 11
1 Mosiah’s law said to pay the judges for the time they spent judging the people.
2 If a man owed someone money, and would not pay what he owed, the other would complain to the judge. The judge would send guards to bring the man before him to be judged by the law and by the proof against him. So the man had to pay what he owed, or his things would be taken away from him, or he would be thrown out from among the people as a robber.
3 The judges were paid a senine of gold or a senum of silver for every day they judged, as the law said.
4 These are the names of the different gold and silver pieces and how much they were worth. They were named by the Nephites, who did not count as the Jews did at Jerusalem. The Nephites had changed the way they measured things, and changed their money as the people in every generation wanted, up until the time of the judges, when King Mosiah set the measures.
5 Their gold pieces were: a senine, a seon, a shum, and a limnah.
6 Their silver pieces were: a senum, an amnor, an ezrom, and an onti.
7 A senum of silver was worth the same as a senine of gold, and either was worth a measure of barley or other kind of grain.
8 A seon of gold was worth two senines.
9 A shum of gold was worth two seons.
10 And a limnah of gold was worth as much as all the rest put together.
11 An amnor of silver was worth two senums.
12 An ezrom of silver worth as four senums.
13 And an onti of silver worth as much as all of them put together.
14 This is what their smaller pieces of money were worth:
15 A shiblon was half a senum, so a shiblon was the same as half a measure of barley.
16 A shiblum was half a shiblon.
17 A leah was half a shiblum.
18 This is what each piece of money was worth.
19 An antion of gold was worth three shiblons.
20 Now, all the lawyers wanted to do was get rich, so they would get people to make all kinds of trouble and do all kinds of wicked things, so they could get more work and get more money. This is why they made the people angry at Alma and Amulek.
21 And so this Zeezrom asked Amulek: “Will you answer a few of my questions?” (Now, Zeezrom was very smart in using the devil’s tricks so he could destroy what was good. This was why he asked Amulek, “Will you answer a few of my questions?”)
22 Amulek said to him: “Yes, if the Spirit of the Lord in me will let me, because I will not say anything the Spirit of the Lord does not want me to say.” And Zeezrom said to him: “Look, I will give you these six ontis of silver if you will say there is no God.”
23 And Amulek said: “O you child of hell, don’t you know that the righteous would never do that?
24 “Do you believe there is no God? I tell you, No. You know there is a God, but you love that filthy money more than you love him.
25 “Now you have lied to me in front of God. You said to me: ‘I will give you these six ontis,’ when you knew you would not give them to me. All you wanted to do was have me say that there is no true and living God so you could destroy me. You will pay for this great evil.”
26 Then Zeezrom asked him: “You say there is a true and living God?”
27 And Amulek said: “Yes, there is a true and living God.”
28 Then Zeezrom asked: “Is there more than one God?”
29 And Amulek answered: “No.”
30 Then Zeezrom asked him again: “How do you know these things?”
31 And he said: “An angel told me.”
32 Then Zeezrom asked him: “Who is the one who is coming? Is it the Son of God?”
33 And he said to him: “Yes.”
34 Then Zeezrom said to him: “Will he save his people in their sins?” And Amulek said to him: “He will not, because he cannot go against his own words.”
35 Then Zeezrom said to the people: “Remember that he said there is one God, and that the Son of God would come — but he will not save his people; and he says this as though he could command God.”
36 Then Amulek said to him: “You lie. You say I have said this as though I could command God, because I said he will not save his people in their sins.
37 “I tell you again that he cannot save them in their sins, because he cannot go against what he has said. He has said that no filthy thing can come into the kingdom of heaven. How can you be saved if you cannot go into the kingdom of heaven? So you cannot be saved in your sins.”
38 Then Zeezrom asked him: “Is the Son of God the Eternal Father?”
39 And Amulek said to him: “Yes, he is the Eternal Father of heaven and earth and everything in them. He is the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
40 “He will come into the world to save his people. He will take on himself the sins of those who believe on his name. Those are the ones who will have eternal life, and no one else will be saved.
41 “So it will be for the wicked as if there were no salvation, except that they will live again after death. The day will come when all will rise from the dead to stand before God and be judged by their works.
42 “Now, there is a death of the body, and Christ will free everyone from the chains of this death.
43 “The spirit and body will come together again perfectly. Arms and legs and bones will be restored again perfectly, and we will be brought to stand before God just as we are now, knowing as we know now, and remembering all our guilt very well.
44 “This restoration will be for everyone — old and young, slave and free, male and female, wicked and righteous. Not one hair of their heads will be lost, but everything will be restored perfectly as it is now, or as it is in the body. They will be brought before Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged by their good or evil works.
45 “Now, I have talked to you about the mortal body and its resurrection. This mortal body will be raised from the first death to become immortal, and it will never die again. Spirits will come together again with their bodies, never to be divided again, so they will become spiritual and immortal, and they will never die again.”
46 After Amulek said these words, the people began to be amazed again, and Zeezrom began to shake. This is all I have written of Amulek’s words.
