The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Third Nephi — Chapter 18

Then Jesus commanded his disciples to bring some bread and wine to him.

While they were gone to get bread and wine, he commanded the people to sit down on the ground.

When the disciples came back with bread and wine, he took the bread and broke it and blessed it. Then he gave it to the disciples and commanded them to eat it.

When they had eaten it and were full, he commanded them to give bread to all the people.

When all the people had eaten and were full, he said to the disciples: “I will choose one from among you, and I will give him power to break the bread and bless it and give it to the people of my church — to all who will believe and be baptized in my name.

“Always do this, just as I have broken bread and blessed it and given it to you.

“Do this to remember my body which I have shown to you. This will be a witness to the Father that you always remember me. If you always remember me, you will have my spirit with you.”

After he said this, he commanded his disciples to drink some of the wine in the cup, and then give some to all the people to drink.

They did so, and drank until they were full. Then they gave wine to all the people, who drank until they were full.nd said to the people:

After the disciples did this, Jesus said to them: “You are blessed for doing this, because you are keeping my commandments. This is a witness to the Father that you want to do what I have commanded you.

“Do this for all who repent and are baptized in my name. Do it to remember my blood, which I sacrificed for you, as a witness to the Father that you always remember me. If you always remember me, you will have my spirit with you.

“I command you to do these things. If you always do these things, you will be blessed, because you are built on my rock.

“But if anybody among you does more or less than what I have said, they will not be built on my rock, but on the sand. When the rain comes down, and the floods come and the winds blow on them, they will fall, and the gates of hell are open and ready for them to come in.

“You will be blessed if you keep the commandments my Father told me to give you.

“I tell you, watch and pray always so the devil will not lead you into sin and make you his slaves.

“Just as I have prayed for you, pray in my church among my people who repent and are baptized in my name. I am the light, and I have set an example for you.”

After Jesus said these things to his disciples, he turned again to all the people and said:

“I tell you, watch and pray always so you will not sin, because Satan wants to have you to sift you like wheat.

“So you must always pray to the Father in my name.

T“You will be given whatever you ask the Father for in my name, which is right, if you believe you will receive it.

“Pray to the Father in your families, so your [husbands and] wives and children will be blessed.

“Meet together often. Do not stop anyone from coming in when you meet together, but let them in.

“Pray for them, and don’t throw them out. If they come in often where you are, pray to the Father for them in my name.

“Hold up your light so it will shine for the world. I am the light you will hold up. Do what you have seen me do. You have seen me pray to the Father, and you are all witnesses of it.

“You see that I have not told any of you to go away, but I have commanded you to come to me, to feel and see. Do the same for the world. Those who do not keep this commandment will let themselves be led into sin.”

After Jesus said this, he looked at the disciples he had chosen and said to them:

“I will give you another commandment, and then I must go to the Father so I can obey other commandments he has given me.

“This is the commandment I give to you: Don’t let anyone take the bread (of my body) and the wine (of my blood) you are giving if you know they are not worthy.

“Whoever eats the bread and drinks the wine when they are not worthy eats and drinks damnation to their souls. So if you know someone is not worthy, don’t let them eat the bread and drink the wine.

“Even so, don’t make them go away from among you, but help them and pray to the Father for them in my name. If they repent and are baptized in my name, then you will let them eat the bread and drink the wine.

“But if they do not repent, they will not be counted as part of my people, so they will not destroy my people. I know my sheep, and I have counted them.

“But even so, don’t throw them out of the places where you worship, and keep on helping them, because you do not know if they might repent and come to me with all their hearts so I can heal them. You will bring salvation to them.

“Keep these commandments I have given you so you will not be condemned. Woe to them whom the Father condemns.

“I give you these commandments because of the arguments there have been among you. You will be blessed if there are no arguments among you.

“Now I am going to the Father, which I must do for your good.”

After Jesus was done saying these things, he touched all his disciples one by one with his hand, saying something to them as he touched them.

The people did not hear what he said, so they could not tell about it, but the disciples said he gave them power to give the Holy Ghost. I will show you later that this record is true.

After Jesus had touched them all, a cloud came over all the people so they could not see Jesus.

And while the cloud was there, he left and went up into heaven. The disciples saw and witnessed that he went up again into heaven.
