Third Nephi — Chapter 15
When Jesus was done saying these things, he looked at the people and said to them: “You have now heard the things I taught before I went up to the Father. Whoever remembers what I have said and does these things will be with me at the last day.”
After Jesus said this, he saw that some people wondered what he would do about the Law of Moses, because they did not understand that the old ways were finished, and that everything had become new.
So he said to them: “Don’t worry about my telling you that the old ways were finished, and that everything has become new.
“I tell you that everything in the Law of Moses was finished.
“I am the One who gave Moses the Law, and I am the One who made the promises to the people of Israel. I came to finish the law, and now it is finished.
“I will do everything I have not done yet which the prophets said I will do.
“Just because I said to you that the old ways are finished does not mean I will not do the things which still need to be done.
“The promise I have made to my people is not finished yet, but I have finished the Law of Moses.
“I am the law and the light. Have faith in me and keep my commandments for the rest of your lives, and you will live forever. I will give eternal life to whoever is faithful to the end.
“I have given these commandments to you, so keep my commandments. The law and the prophets are witnesses of me.”
After Jesus said these words, he said to the twelve disciples he had chosen:
You are my disciples, and you are a light for this people, who belong to the House of Joseph.
This is your land, and the Father has given it to you.
The Father never commanded me to tell your brothers and sisters at Jerusalem about this land.
And the Father never commanded me to tell them about the other tribes of the House of Israel, whom the Father led away out of that land.
But the Father did command me to tell them this:
“I have other sheep who do not live in this land, whom I must also teach, and who will hear my voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.”
But because they were stubborn and did not believe, they did not understand what I said, so the Father commanded me not to tell them any more about this thing.
But the Father has commanded me to tell you that you were led away from them because of their wickedness, and that they do not know about you because of their wickedness.
The Father led the other tribes away from those in Jerusalem, and they do not know about them either because of their wickedness.
You are the ones I was talking about when I said: “I have other sheep who do not live in this land, whom I must also teach, and who will hear my voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.”
They did not understand me. They thought I was talking about the Gentiles. They did not understand that the Gentiles would be converted by their preaching.
They did not understand when I said the other sheep would hear my voice, but the Gentiles would never hear my voice. The Gentiles would only know about me through the Holy Ghost.
But you have heard my voice and seen me. You are my sheep, and you are counted as part of those whom the Father has given to me.
