The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Third Nephi — Chapter 14

Jesus continues teaching the Nephites–see Matthew 7.

After Jesus said these things [to the twelve disciples], he turned and said to all the people: I tell you truly, do not judge, or you will be judged.

The way you judge others will be the way you yourself will be judged.

Why do you look at the speck in your friend’s eye, when you don’t think about the log in your own eye?

How can you say to your friend: “Let me get the speck out of your eye,” when a log is in your own eye?

You hypocrite, first get the log out of your own eye. Then you will be able to see clearly to get the speck out of your friend’s eye.

Do not give holy things to dogs, or things you love to pigs, in case they walk all over them and then turn around again and tear at you.

Ask, and you will receive. Look, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you.

Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who looks will find. And everyone who knocks will have it opened.

What parents here would give their children a rock if they asked for bread?

Would you give them a snake if they asked for fish?

If you, who are evil, know how to give good things to your children, don’t you think your Heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him?

Do to other people the things you would like them to do to you. This is what the Law and the prophets say.

Come in at the narrow gate. The gate leading to destruction is very wide, and many people go in that way.

But the gate leading to eternal life is very narrow, and very few people find it.

Watch out for false prophets, who look like sheep, but instead are hungry wolves.

You will know them by their fruits — by the things they do. Do people gather grapes from weeds, or figs from weeds?

Every good tree grows good fruit, but a bad tree grows bad fruit.

A good tree cannot grow bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot grow good fruit.

Every tree that does not grow good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

You will know if people are bad or good by the things they do (which are their fruits).

Not everyone who calls me “Lord, Lord,” will get into God’s kingdom. Only those who obey Heavenly Father will get into his kingdom.are, that is where your heart will be.

Many will say to me at that time: “Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy and throw out devils and do many wonderful things in your name?”

Then I will tell them: “I never knew you. Go away from me, you who do wicked things.”

Whoever hears what I say and does it is like a wise man who built his house on a rock.

When the rains fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew on that house, it was not destroyed, because it was built on a rock.

But whoever hears what I say and does not do it is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

When the rains fell down, and the floods came, and the winds blew on that house, it was destroyed, and its destruction was terrible.
