The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Second Nephi — Chapter 28

Now, my dear brothers and sisters, I have talked to you as the Spirit has told me to, so I know the things I have said will come true.

The things which will be written from that book will be worth a lot to people, especially to our descendants, who are part of the House of Israel.

At that time, there will be many churches, but not the Lord’s church, and they will say to each other: “I am the Lord’s church.” Others will say: “I, I am the Lord’s church.” They will all say that, even though they are not the Lord’s church.

They will fight with each other; their priests will argue with each other. They will teach their own knowledge and deny the knowledge the Holy Ghost gives.

They will deny the power of God, the Holy One of Israel. They will say to the people: “Listen to us and listen to what we teach. There is no God today, because the Lord and Savior has already done his work, and he has given his power to people.

“Listen to what we teach. If someone says the Lord is doing a miracle, don’t believe it, because God does not do any more miracles. He is done with his work.”

Yes, many will say: “Eat, drink, have fun, because tomorrow we will die, and we will be all right.”

Many others will say: “Eat, drink, have fun, but think about God. He does not care if people sin a little bit. Yes, lie a little, make trouble for people because of what they say, trick your neighbor. This is not very important. Do all these things, because tomorrow we will die. If we are guilty, God will punish us a little bit, and then he will save us in his kingdom.”

Yes, many will teach these false and foolish things, and will be proud in their hearts, and will try to hide their plans from God. Their works will be done in the dark.

The blood of the saints will cry against them from the ground.

Yes, they have all gone out of the right way. They have become wicked.

Their churches are wicked because of false teachers and teachings. Their churches are full of pride.

They rob the poor to build their rich church buildings, and to make their rich clothes. They are so proud, they persecute the meek and humble.

They are stubborn and proud. All of them have gone out of the right way because of pride, and wickedness, and sins, and sexual sins, except for a few who are Christ’s humble followers — and even they make mistakes because of people’s false teachings.

O the wise, and the educated, and the rich, who are proud in their hearts, and all who teach false things, and all who commit sexual sins, and change the right way of the Lord the Lord God Almighty says: “Woe, woe, woe to them, because they will be sent down to hell!”

Woe to those who treat good people badly, who say bad things about things which are good, and who say that good things are not worth anything! The day will come when the Lord God will quickly come to the people of earth. Those who are full of sin will die at that time.

The Lord of Hosts says: “If the people of the earth repent of their wickedness and sins, they will not be destroyed.”

But the big and wicked church, the sinner of all the earth, will fall to the earth with a terrible fall.

The devil’s kingdom must shake, and all in that kingdom must know that they must repent, or the devil will put them in his chains forever, and they will be angry, and die.

At that time the devil will make people’s hearts angry, and make them angry against things that are good.

But he will say to others: “Don’t worry, you are fine, Zion is doing well, everything is all right.” This is how he will trick them and lead them carefully down to hell.

He will tell others that there is no hell, saying to them: “I am not the devil — there is no devil.” He will say this softly in their ears until he puts his awful chains on them from which they cannot be saved.

Yes, they are tied up with death and hell. Death, and hell, and the devil, and all who are caught by them will stand before God’s throne and be judged by the things they have done. Then they will go to the place of fire and pain prepared for them.

So woe to those resting in Zion!

Woe to those who say: “All is well!”

Yes, woe to those who listen to what people teach, and deny God’s power and the gift of the Holy Ghost!

Yes, woe to those who say: “We have gotten enough, and we do not need any more [from God]!”

Woe to all who are angry because of God’s truth! Those who are built on the rock of truth are happy to get more of it. Those who are not are built on the sand, and shake with fear that they may fall.

Woe to those who say: “We have gotten God’s word, and we do not need any more of God’s word, because we have enough!”

This is what the Lord God says: “I will give people knowledge a little at a time, a teaching here, and a teaching there. Those who listen to my teachings and do what I say, will be blessed, because they will become wise. Whoever takes what I give will get more. But whoever says, ‘We have enough’ will have those things taken away.”

Cursed are those who trust in people, or trust their own knowledge, or who listen to people’s teachings (unless the power of the Holy Ghost has given them those teachings).

The Lord God of Hosts says: “Woe to the Gentiles, because they will deny me, even though I will reach out to them day after day. Even so, I will have mercy on them if they repent and come to me. I will reach out to them all day long.”
