The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Second Nephi — Chapter 23

(See Isaiah 13)

This is what Isaiah, Amos’s son, saw would happen to Babylon.

“Put a signal on a high mountain, shout to them, tell them with your hands to go where rich people live.

“I have told my holy people to do this, because I am not angry with those who worship me.”

The noise of the Lord’s armies gathering is great.

They are coming from a faraway land, as if from heaven. The Lord and his weapons will destroy the whole earth.

Howl and cry, because the Lord’s day has come, and it will destroy you.

Everyone will be terribly afraid. They will hardly be able to move.

They will be terribly afraid, and full of pain and sadness, and their faces will melt on that day.

The Lord’s day of anger has come, and he will destroy the land and all the sinners in it.

The stars and the moon and the sun will be dark.

“I will punish the world for its sins and its evil. I will destroy the proud and mighty.

“A person who lives through this will be harder to find than pure gold.

“In my day of anger I will shake the heavens, and the earth will move out of its place.

“People will run away to their own lands and homes. They will not care about anything else.

“All those found will be killed. All the wicked and proud will die in war.

“Their children will be murdered in front of their eyes. Their wives will be raped, and all their riches will be taken from them.

“I will send terrible soldiers against them who will not care how much gold and silver they have,

“But they will kill their young men and their babies and children.

“What will happen to Babylon will be just like what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah.

“No one will ever live there again — not even the desert shepherds.

“Strange wild animals will make their homes there,

“And these animals will cry and howl in their homes. I will destroy Babylon very soon. I will have mercy on my people, but I will destroy the wicked.”
