Second Nephi — Chapter 19

(See Isaiah 9)

Even so, the land will not be so dark to those who were full of sadness for her. In the past he humbled the lands of Zebulun and Naphtali, but at last he will lift up the land near the Red Sea and Galilee.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. The light has shined on those who live in the land of the shadow of death.

You have made the nation bigger and made its joy greater. They are happy before you, just as people are happy at harvest-time, or when they share their riches,

Because you have broken off the tyrant’s heavy chains and broken his whip.

All the soldiers’ boots and coats will be used like wood for a fire.

A son is born and given to us, and he will be the head of the government. He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

His rule on the throne of David and his peace will never end. He will rule with justice and righteousness forever. His great desire will make this happen.

The Lord sent his word to Jacob, and it will happen to Israel.

All the people will know about it, even those in Ephraim and Samaria, who say with pride:

“The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with cut rocks. All the sycamore trees are cut down, but we will plant cedar trees instead.”

But the Lord will gather together all of Rezin’s enemies against him.

The Syrians will be in front, and the Philistines will be behind, and they will eat up Israel. Even after all this, the Lord will still be angry,

Because the people will not turn back to the Lord, even after he punishes them.

So the Lord will cut off Israel’s head and tail and arms and legs in one day.

The old people or leaders are the head. Prophets who tell lies are the tail.

The people’s rulers are the ones making them sin. Those following them are confused and destroyed.

So the Lord has no joy in their young people, and he will not have mercy on the orphans and widows, because all of them are evil hypocrites, and all say wicked things. Even after all this, the Lord will still be angry.

Wickedness will burn like a fire, burning up the weeds and forests, and taking them into the air with the smoke.

The anger of the Lord of Hosts will burn the land dark, and people will be like wood for the fire. People will kill their own families to save themselves.

They will hunt and steal on the left and on the right, but they will not find enough to eat, and they will still be hungry. People will even eat their own children.

Ephraim and Manasseh will both be against Judah. Even after all this, the Lord will still be angry.
