The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Second Nephi — Chapter 16

(See Isaiah 6)

The same year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting high up on a throne in the temple, and his robe filled the room.

Seraphim stood above the throne. Each one had six wings. They covered their faces with two, and covered their feet with two, and flew with two.

One said to another: “The Lord of Hosts is holy, and the whole earth is filled with his glory.”

The door shook when he spoke, and the temple was filled with smoke.

Then I said: “Woe is me, I cannot speak, because I have sinned with my lips, and my people also sin with their lips! I have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me carrying a hot coal in his hand from the altar.

He put it on my mouth and said: “This has touched your lips, so your sins are taken away.”

I also heard the Lord say: “Whom shall I send — who will go for us?” And I said: “I am here — send me.”

And he said: “Tell this people: ‘You will hear, but not understand. You will see, but not understand.

“‘Your hearts will be lazy, and your ears heavy, and your eyes shut, so you will not see with your eyes, nor hear with your ears, nor understand with your hearts so you can repent and be saved.’”

Then I asked: “How long will things be like this?” And he said: “Until all the cities are empty, and the houses have no more people, and the land is completely good for nothing.”

The Lord will send the people far away, and people will leave the middle of the land.

One out of ten will still live there, or come back, and they will be burned. But those who are left will be a new and holy people, just as a stump of a fallen tree stays alive and grows again.
