The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

Second Nephi — Chapter 13

(See Isaiah 3)

Even now, the Lord is taking away the bread and water from Judah and Jerusalem —

All their strong men and soldiers, and all their judges and prophets and old people;

All their leaders and good people, their workers, and their teachers.

I will make older children their leaders, and bad children will rule over them.

Everyone will bully each other and take each other’s things. Children will be rude to older people, and wicked people will treat good people badly.

Then a man will grab his brother in his parent’s family, and say: “You have clothes, be our leader, don’t let us be destroyed — ”

But the brother will say: “I am not a doctor. You cannot make me a leader, because there is no food nor clothing in my house.”

Jerusalem will be weak, and Judah will fall, because they have been evil and said bad things about the Lord and his glory right in front of him.

The look on their faces show that their sins are as bad as those of Sodom, and they cannot hide their guilt. Woe to their souls, because they have destroyed themselves!

Tell the righteous people that it will be all right for them. Their own good works will bring them good things.

Woe to the wicked when trouble comes, because they will be paid back for their evil works.

Children make my people slaves, and women are their rulers. My people, your leaders are the ones making you sin and changing my teachings.

The Lord will stand against them, and he will judge the nations.

The Lord will judge the old and noble leaders of his people, and say to them: “You have eaten up everything in the vineyard. You have made yourselves rich by taking away what belongs to the poor.”

The Lord says: “What do you mean by bullying the poor and making them poorer?”

The Lord also says: “Since Zion’s daughters are so proud, and make a show of themselves when they walk, and paint their eyes, me.

“The Lord will make their heads bald, and he will reveal their secret parts.”

Then the Lord will get rid of all their fancy things — their jewelry and pins, the fancy things for their hair,

Their chains and necklaces and bracelets and scarves,

Their fancy hats and ankle bracelets, and earrings,

Their rings and nose jewels,

Their dresses and robes,

Their mirrors and veils and fur coats.

They will stink instead of smell sweet. Their clothes will be torn and filthy. They will be bald. Instead of being beautiful, they will be sick, and they will make others sick.

Your men will die in war, and your strength will be wasted.

Your [women] will be terribly sad, and alone, and [they] will sit by [themselves] on the ground.
