The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

First Nephi — Chapter 9

1 My father saw and heard and said all these things while he lived in the valley of Lemuel. He also heard and saw and said many other things which I cannot write on these plates.
2 These plates are not the plates on which I am writing the whole history of my people. There are two sets of plates, and they are both called the plates of Nephi, after my name.
3 The Lord told me to write a history on these plates of what he and his servants have done for my people.
4 A history of our kings and wars and fights will be written on the other plates, but these plates will be mostly about what God has done for my people.
5 The Lord told me to make these plates for a good reason. I don’t know what that reason is.
6 But the Lord knows everything which will happen, and he has prepared a way to do everything he needs to do for his children. He has the power to do what he says he will do. And so it is. Amen.
