The Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon

First Nephi — Chapter 14

“If the Gentiles listen to the Son of God when he shows himself and talks to them with power, and when he takes away the things which make them fall —

“If they do not harden their hearts and fight against the Son of God, they will belong to your father’s family, and to the House of Israel. They will be blessed and live in the promised land forever. They will never be slaves again, and the House of Israel will not fall again.

“The big trap made by the devil’s wicked church and his children to bring people to hell will trap the people who made it instead. The Son of God says they will be destroyed. Their souls will not be destroyed, but they will live in a hell which never ends.

“This is how the devil makes his slaves, and this is how the justice of God works against those who do wicked and evil things before him.”

Then the angel said to me: “You saw that if the Gentiles repent, things will go well for them. You also know about God’s promises to the House of Israel. You also heard that whoever does not repent will be destroyed.

“So woe to the Gentiles if they do not believe in the Son of God.

“The Son of God says: ‘The time will come when I will do a great and wonderful thing among people which will either save them and give them eternal life, or destroy them and make them slaves to the devil in hell.’”

Then the angel said to me: “Do you remember God’s promises to the House of Israel?” I said to him: “Yes.”

Then he said to me: “Look at the wicked church the devil made. It is the parent of all wickedness.”

And he said: “There are really only two churches — the Son of God’s church and the devil’s church. Whoever does not belong to the Son of God’s church belongs to the devil’s church. The devil’s church is the parent of all wickedness and the sinner of all the earth.”

I looked and saw that the devil’s church had power over all the lands, nations, families, and people on earth.

I also saw that only a few people belonged to the Son of God’s church because of the wickedness of the devil’s church. Even so, a few saints lived in all parts of the earth.

Then I saw the devil’s church gather people from all over the earth to fight against the Son of God.

Then I, Nephi, saw the power of the Son of God come down on the saints of his church and on his promised people all over the world, and the righteous had the power of God’s glory with them.

God was very angry with the devil’s church, so there was war and talk of war in every land on earth.

When the wars and talk of wars began in every land over which the devil’s church had power, the angel said to me: “God’s anger is on the devil’s church, and you see all these things.

“When God’s anger is on the devil’s church, that will be the day when all of God’s promises to the House of Israel will begin to come true.”

Then the angel said to me: “Look!”

I looked and saw a man dressed in a white robe.

The angel said to me: “This is one of the twelve apostles of the Son of God.”

“He will see and write about the rest of these things, along with other things which have happened.

“He will also write about the end of the world.

“The things he will write are true, and they will be written in the book of the Jews [the Bible]. At the time he writes these things, they will be easy for all people to understand.

“He will write down many of the things you have seen. You will see the rest, too.

“But you cannot write about the things you will see from now on, because God wants this apostle of the Son of God to write about them.

“There are others who have seen all these things, and written about them, but their records are sealed. The House of Israel will not be able to read about those things until the Lord lets them.”

I, Nephi, tell you that the angel said the apostle’s name was John.

I was told not to write the rest of the things I saw and heard. I have written only a little bit of what I saw, but it is enough.

I saw the same things my father saw, and the angel of the Lord showed them to me.

Now I will stop talking about the things I saw while I was taken away in the Spirit. Even though I have not written down everything I saw, all the things I have written down are true. Amen.
